Question : EMPOWERMENT OF MINORITY WOMEN



(a) whether the Government proposes to chalk out any action plan for the empowerment of minority women in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof; State – wise;

(c) whether the Government has received any recommendations from the National Commission for Women in this regard;

(d) if so, the details thereof, and

(e) the action taken or proposed to be taken by the Government on the said recommendations?

MINISTER OF THE STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) IN THE MINISTRY OF MINORITY AFFAIRS (SALMAN KHURSHID)

(a) to (e) Yes, Madam. The Government has formulated and approved a scheme for Leadership Development of Minority Women. Inputs received, inter-alia, from National Commission for Women (NCW) were also taken into account. NCW had envisaged a scheme which would reach out to minority women and help them to assume leadership roles in accessing services, skills and opportunities for improving their lives and livelihood. The details of the scheme which was finalized in the Ministry and launched on 27th January, 2010, are posted on the website of the Ministry viz. www.minorityaffairs.gov.in
