Question : CNG Filling Stations

(a) whether the Government has proposed to open more CNG filling stations in the country, particularly in Mumbai;
(b) if so, the details thereof including the number of such stations, city-wise;
(c) whether the number of CNG filling stations is very few in comparison to CNG vehicles, if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor; and
(d) whether the Government proposes to increase the CNG filling stations during the next five years and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d) Petroleum & Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) is the authority to grant authorization to the entities for the development of City Gas Distribution (CGD) network in Geographical Areas (GAs) as per PNGRB Act, 2006. PNGRB identifies GAs for authorizing the development of CGD network in synchronization with the development of natural gas pipeline connectivity and natural gas availability. Establishment of CNG stations is part of development of CGD Network. So far PNGRB has authorized 228 GAs for development of CGD network across country including Mumbai up to 10th CGD Bidding Round. As on May, 2019, 135 CNG stations are operational in Mumbai. With regard to proposed plan of Government to increase the number of CNG filling stations, it is informed that CGD entities have made commitment of total 8,181 CNG stations in next 8 years. The details of CNG Stations as per work plan submitted by CGD entities to PNGRB during 9th and 10th CGD Bidding Round number of CNG stations is given in Annexure. As per information provided by PNGRB, as on 31.03.2019, there are total 1742 CNG stations for supplying CNG to 28,86,027 vehicles in the country.
