Question : Export of DMU Trains Sets to Sri Lanka

(a) whether the Railways is all set to establish its footprint in Sri Lanka with the export of six Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) train sets consisting of seventy eight modern coaches and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether all train sets have been equipped with state-of-the-art technology and manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai and if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has been extending various lines of credit for funding railway projects for export of Indian Railways manufactured locomotives and rolling stock to foster regional cooperation and if so, the facts in this regard;

(d) the names of the countries benefitted by such credit for funding railway projects; and

(e) the details of the target set for manufacturing of coaches during the last year and the extent to which it has been achieved?

(a) Yes, Madam. Indian Railway is exporting 06 DEMU train sets to Sri

Lanka. Each DEMU set consists of 13 coaches, totaling 78 coaches for 06 sets.
(b) Yes, Madam. All the DEMU train sets are manufactured at ICF. These DEMU sets are equipped with state-of-the-art three phase AC-AC propulsion system, superior suspension and superior interiors.

(c) Yes, Madam. Government of India has extended Line of Credit (LoC) to various countries for funding Railway projects that have been utilized for export of rolling stock manufactured by Indian Railways. Some of the contracts executed and under process under Indian Line of Credit (LoC) are as follows:
I. Supply of 120 LHB Coaches to Bangladesh.
II. 18 Meter gauge locomotives to Myanmar.
III. Export of 06 DEMUs and 10 diesel locomotives to Sri Lanka.

(d) Some of the countries benefited by line of credit are Bangladesh, Myanmar, Angola, Sudan, Senegal, Mali and Sri Lanka.

(e) A target of manufacturing total 4659 coaches during 2017-18 was set for Indian Railway Production Units and a total of 4444 coaches were manufactured during the year.
