Question : DEVELOPMENT OF HISTORICAL AND RELIGIOUS CULTURE



(a) the achievements made by the Government towards promotion and expansion of Arts and Culture;

(b) the achievements made and the activities undertaken by the Cultural Centres during each of the last three years and the current year, State-wise;

(c) whether the Government has set up Cultural Resources and Training Centres for foreign teachers;

(d) if so, the details thereof, location-wise; and

(e) the functions and objectives and the achievements made by them?

MINISTER FOR INFORMATION & BROADCASTING AND CULTURE (SHRI S. JAIPAL REDDY )

(a) Ministry of Culture has a number of schemes for promotion of art and culture viz.

i) Financial Assistance to Professional Groups and Individuals for Specified Performing Art Projects, ii) Financial Assistance to Cultural Organisations for Construction of Building/Purchase of Equipments, iii) Financial Assistance for Promotion and Dissemination of Tribal/Folk Arts and Culture, iv) Scholarship to Young Artists, v) Senior/Junior Fellowship to Outstanding Artists.

Besides above, various Institution/ Akademies and Zonal Cultural Centres are contributing towards promotion of art and culture.

(b) There are 7 Zonal Cultural Centres which were set up with the objectives of protecting and promoting folk arts in India. To achieve this objective, Zonal Cultural Centres implement the following Schemes:


(i) National Cultural Exchange Programme

(ii) Documentation

(iii) Guru Shishya Parampara

(iv) Theatre Rejuvenation

(v) Young Talented Artists

Since the expenditure is incurred by the Centres for the Zone as a whole aimed at protecting and promoting art forms, a statement showing activities and expenditure incurred for each programme organized by the Zonal Cultural Centres during the last three years and up to November, 2004 is annexed.
