(a) whether an ''''India SanitationConference'''' was held at New Delhirecently;
(b) if so, the details of discussions heldin the conference and outcome thereof;
(c) whether reuse and recycling of wasteneeds to be made more technology-driven;

(d) if so, the steps taken or proposed tobe taken by the Union Government on thereuse and recycling of waste and theassistance to be provided to State Governments and UTs to adopt such

(a) and (b) Yes. An India Sanitation Conference-2016(Indosan-2016) was jointly organized on 30th September, 2016 at New Delhi by the Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation and Ministry of Urban Development. Besides taking stock of the progress in urban and rural areas under Swachh Bharat Mission over the last two years and looking at the way forward, commitment to ensure Clean India by 2019 was renewed. During the day-long INDOSAN conference, various issues like behaviour change, best sanitation practices, Swachh technologies, financing Swachh Bharat Mission, inclusive sanitation, cleanliness at 100 iconic places, solid and liquid waste management were discussed. Exhibition –both indoor and outdoor was also simultaneously held on various aspects of Swachh Bharat, including the technologies on sanitation and hygiene and also waste management.

(c) Yes.

(d) Under Solid and Liquid Waste Management, activities like compost pits, vermi composting, biogas plants, low cost drainage, soakage channels/ pits, reuse of waste water and system for collection, segregation and disposal of household garbage and menstrual hygiene management etc are being carried out. Depending upon the amount of waste water generated, the State can choose the type of liquid waste management technology. Funds for Solid and Liquid Waste Management activities with a cap of Rs. 7/12/15/20 lakh are available for Gram Panchayats having upto 150/300/500/ more than 500 households.The technology aspect is also being focused and an expert committee under Dr R.A. Mashelkar has been constituted to examine and recommend new technologies. Quarterly exhibitions are organised to spread these technologies amongst the States and other stakeholders.
