Question : INDIAN STUDENTS IN CANADA



(a) Whether the university where a group of Indian students got admitted to pursue their MBA degree, has been closed down by the Local Government in Canada as reported in `The Times of India` dated April 12, 2007.

(b) If so, the details in this regard;

(c) Whether the Indian Government has approached the Government of Canada in this regard; and

(d) If so, the reaction of Canadian Government in this regard?

(a)&(b): Yes, Sir. The provincial Government of British Columbia, Canada ordered in February 2007 closure of the Lansbridge University with effect from 1SI May 2007, after the authorities found serious violation of provincial laws by the University.

( c)&(d): The Consul General of India in Toronto, has taken up the matter with the provincial Government of British Columbia, Canada. He also had a meeting with the Minister of Advanced Education of the Govt. of Canada. The British Columbian government has appointed a Liasion Officer to help the concerned students by making alternative arrangements to transfer the students to other Universities. Of the total 60 Indian students affected, about 50 students have already been transferred to other Universities.
