Question : Promotion of Dairy Industry in Hilly States

(a) whether the Government has any proposal to promote and incentivize dairy industry in hilly States of the country including Uttarakhand;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the various steps taken by the Government to promote the dairy industry in hilly regions of the country?

(a) &(b) Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries, Government of India has been implementing the following schemes to promote and incentivize dairy sector across the country including hilly States like Uttarakhand:

(i) National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD) (Component of National Programme for Buffalo Breeding and Dairy Development)

(ii) National Dairy Plan Phase –I (NDP-I)

(iii) Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme (DEDS)

For the 12th Plan period, the plan outlay of the NPDD, NDP-I and DEDS Schemes are Rs 600 Crore, Rs.1756 Crore and Rs.1400 Crore respectively.

(c) This Department has released central assistance of Rs 64.03 Crore, Rs 5.75 Crore, and Rs 101.53 Crore to promote the dairy industry under NPDD, NDP-I and DEDS respectively to 11 hilly States namely Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir during the period from 2012-13 to 2015-16 (up to 23.07.2015).
