Question : Rising Unemployment

(a) the causes of rising unemployment in India;
(b) the number of recruitments done by the Government on a permanent basis, year-wise in last 10 years;
(c) the company-wise number of job opportunities currently being provided by private companies in the country, along with the State-wise and Union Territory-wise details thereof including Bihar, West Bengal and Gujarat;
(d) whether there is any provision for private companies to provide job to the local people in the company and if so, the details thereof; and
(e) the number of local people who have got employment at present along with the company-wise and State-wise details thereof?

(a) & (b): As per the results of annual Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) conducted by National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation during 2017-18, the estimated unemployment rate on usual status (principal status + subsidiary status) basis for persons of age 15 years and above in the country was 6.0%.


Recruitment under central government is primarily made by various recruitment agencies namely Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Staff Selection Commission (SSC) and Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) etc. Besides these, many Ministries/Departments have their own recruitment mechanism for certain posts in their domain. There is no centralized agency to collect data from all recruitment agencies and from States/UTs. The Government posts are regularly filled up in accordance with the prescribed recruitment rules. The year-wise number of persons recruited through the main recruitment agencies of the Central Government as available in the Ministry of Labour and Employment is given below:
