(a) whether the Government propose to introduce Crop Insurance Scheme to compensate the damage caused to the crops of the farmers by the wild animals;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the time by which the said scheme is likely to be introduced?

Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE (SHRI HUKUMDEO NARAYAN YADAV)

(a): No Sir. However, the National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS) providing comprehensive risks coverage to yield losses arising due to non-preventable risks (i.e. all natural risks non-preventable in nature) is in operation in the country from Rabi 1999-2000 season. Since, losses to agricultural crops due to wild animals are preventable in nature, therefore, it is not covered under the existing scheme.

(b)&(c): Do not arise.
