Question : Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (IDPL)


Will the Minister of CHEMICALS AND FERTILIZERS be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has any plan to start exporting IDPL (Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd.) made generics if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Government is also set to infuse a working capital of Rs. 45 crore to kick start the business, if so the details thereof; and

(c) the time by which the generics business/export would be started?

(a) to (c): The export of generic drugs manufactured by Indian Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Limited (IDPL) is subject to the upgradation / compliance of World Health Organization – Good Manufacturing Practices (WHO-GMP). The process of upgradation / compliance to WHO-GMP standards of plants of IDPL has been initiated. Once, the process of upgradation / WHO-GMP compliance is completed, the export of generic drugs manufactured by IDPL can be considered. A rehabilitation scheme for IDPL is under active consideration of the Government which will also have provisions for working capital.
