Question : Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act

(a) whether the Government has fixed any date for implementation of the New Education Policy and if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?
(b) whether the Government proposes to extend the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 beyond the age of 14 years, as the NEP envisages equitable education to all;
(c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor; and
(d) whether the Government proposes to extend the application of Article 12(1) (c) to ages 3-18 or until completion of Secondary education?

(a) to (d): The National Education Policy has been approved by the Union Cabinet on 29th July, 2020. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 itself provides the different timelines as well as principles and methodology for its implementation. The NEP 2020 envisages universalisation of education from Early Childhood Care and Education (age 3 onwards) up to higher secondary level (i.e. until Grade 12).
