Question : Bio Fuel Processing Plants

(a) the salient features of bio fuel;
(b) whether the Government has fixed any target in the country in this regard, if so, the State-wise details thereof including Rajasthan along with its present status;
(c) whether the Union Government has accorded sanction to set up bio fuel processing plant in Rajasthan, if so, the details thereof along with present status thereof;
(d) the details of the amount sanctioned and utilised in this regard;
(e) whether the Government has signed or proposes to sign any Agreement/Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Brazil for bio fuel, if so, the details thereof; and
(f) the amount sanctioned and the target fixed under the said Agreement/MoU?

(a): ‘Biofuels’ are fuels produced from renewable resources like biodegradable products, wastes and residues from agriculture, forestry, tree based oil other non-edible oils and used in place of or in blend with diesel, petrol or other fossil fuels for transport, stationary, portable and other applications.
(b): The National Policy on Biofuels announced in 2018 has laid out indicative targets of achieving 20% blending in petrol and 5% blending in diesel by 2030 in the country.
(c) & (d): No, Sir.
(e) & (f): Government of India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Government of Brazil on 25th January, 2020 on Bioenergy Cooperation. The MoU provides a framework to cooperate, inter alia, in biofuels, bioelectricity and biogas supply-chain.
