Question : VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMME



(a) whether Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) proposes to offer vocational training programme to the youths belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL) in certain States;

(b) if so, the States so identified for the purpose;

(c) the salient features of the programme; and

(d) the funds allocated by IGNOU for this purpose?

(a) & (b): Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has informed that it is involved in vocational training programmes to BPL youths in the States of Andhra Pradesh, Assam,Bihar,Chattisgarh,Delhi,Goa,Gujarat,Haryana, Himachal Pradesh,Jharkhand,Madhya Pradesh,Maharashtra, Orissa,Punjab,Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan,Tamil Nadu, Uttrakhand,Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

(c): Under this programme the University envisaged to provide vocational training in various disciplines such as security skills, mechanical, & electrical skills,information technology,textile,tailoring, accounting and horticulture etc. to the youths in different States of the country with the objective to enhance their employability.

(d): Indira Gandhi National Open University has informed that it has sanctioned Rs 14.95 crore,till now,for vocational training in security guard skills.
