Question : New Agriculture Policy


(a) whether the Government proposes to implement new agriculture policy to provide more incentive to the farmers to increase the agricultural production; and

(b) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): The Government is already implementing a number of schemes to increase agricultural production in the country. These include National Food Security Mission (NFSM) for cereals, millets, pulses, commercial crops etc. To promote oilseeds Government provides support through National Mission on Oilseeds and Oil Palm (NMOOP). Other schemes like Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojna (PMKSY) help in increasing the area under irrigation and enhancing water use efficiency.

Government’s policy of notifying Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 23 commodities including various cereals, pulses and oilseeds also serves as an incentives to the farmers and help in increasing the production.
