Question : Yoga in Schools

(a) whether the Government has any proposal to introduce Yoga as a subject in all
CBSE schools across the country, in near future, specially in UP;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) if not, the reasons therefor; and
(d) the details of professional Yoga courses approved by the Government so far?

(a) to (c) : As per the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005, Yoga is an integral
part of Health and Physical Education at all level of school education. For schools
affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which has adopted National
Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) curriculum and syllabi, Health
and Physical Education is compulsory subject for Classes I to X and optional subject at
classes XI and XII.
(d) : Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy
(AYUSH) has informed that there is no Central regulatory body to recognize/approve
professional Yoga courses.
