(a) whether any Central scheme is running for the supply of improved varieties of
vegetable crop seed to farmers;
(b) if so, the salient features thereof;
(c) the amount earmarked and allotted to the States during this Scheme during
2000-2001 and 2001-2002, State-wise; and
(d) the success achieved by this Scheme so far?

(a) & (b): A Central Sector Scheme for production of foundation and certified seed
of vegetable crops was in operation since 1995-96. However, from October, 2000
onwards this scheme has been transferred to Macro Management Programme wherein
States have been given the flexibility to allocate funds to various components according
to their priorities and requirements.
(c): Details of amount earmarked/allotted to the States for the production and supply
of vegetable seeds to farmers under Macro Management Mode during the years 2000-
01 and 2001-02 is given in Annexure.
(d): During the year 2000-01, (Kharif and Rabi), 19321960 kgs. of vegetable seed
was available to farmers.
