Question : Public Financing of Elections

(a) whether the Government believes that there is too much influence in politics of large companies in terms of financing parties as well as getting public contracts;
(b) if so, the details thereof along with the corrective steps taken by the Government to curb it;
(c) whether the Government considers that public financing of elections is one way to reduce influence of companies; and
(d) if so, the details thereof, if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (d): As far as Ministry of Corporate Affairs is concerned, Section 182 of the Companies Act, 2013 provides the manner in which a company shall be able to contribute money to any Political Party or to any person for Political Purpose and provides, the manner in which every company shall disclose in its profit and loss account any amount so contributed by it during financial year and, Penal Provision in case of its contravention by the company and its officers in default.
