Question : Post Office Banking

(a) whether the Government has started post office banking across the country;

(b) if so, the details and the present status thereof;

(c) the time by which the service of post office banking will be available in all post offices of the country; and

(d) total vacancies, present strength of post offices and expected employment generation possibilities during the next five years, State/UT-wise?

(a) Yes Sir, the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) has set up 650 branches on 01.09.2018, which are functional across all States and Union Territories.

(b) & (c) The details of India Post Payments Bank Branches are at Annexure I. The services of IPPB are available in more than 1,36,000 Post Offices which are working as Access Points of IPPB. IPPB is routinely working towards making services available through remaining post office access points subject to technical and other constraints.

(d) The approved sanctioned strength in India Post Payments Bank is 3458 and the vacancy position for the month ending May, 2019 is 2209 details of which can be seen at Annexure II. The vacancy position for the operative regular staff of the post offices is at Annexure III. All the figures are Postal Circle-wise and cadre-wise as information is not gathered State/UT wise. Recruitment to fill up the posts is a continuous process and is being done regularly by holding departmental promotion committee, departmental examination, direct recruitment and by individual Postal Circles and IPPB as per the provisions of relevant recruitment rules.
