Question : SPV FOR MEGA POWER PROJECTS



(a)Whether the Government proposes to set up Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) to pilot the mega power projects in the country ;

(b) If so, the details thereof;

(c)Whether any of such project is also proposed to be set up in West Bengal and Bihar; and

(d) If so, the details thereof ?

THE MINISTER OF THE STATE IN THE MINISTERY OF POWER(SHRI SUSHILKUMAR SHINDE)

(a) to (d) : In order to facilitate the development of Ultra Mega Power Projects Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) are set up by the Power Finance Corporation. The SPVs work on behalf of the distribution utilities in obtaining various clearances associated with the development of the project and would be taken over by the successful bidder emerging out of the tariff based bidding and who would then develop the project.

The following seven SPVs have been formed so far:

a. Sasan Power Limited (Madhya Pradesh) b. Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (Gujarat) c. Coastal Maharashtra Mega Power Limited (Maharashtra) d. Coastal Karnataka Power Limited (Karnataka) e. Akaltatra Power Limited (Chhattisgarh) f. Coastal Andhra Power Ltd. g. Orissa Integrated Power Limited.

In addition, Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu have made a request for setting up Ultra Mega Power Projects (UMPPs) in their states. No such proposal has yet been received from the West Bengal and Bihar Governments.
