(a) whether the Training Centre of Sports Authority of India in Patna has been closed ;
(b) if so, the reasons therefor;
(c) the alternative arrangement made by the Government to impart training to the sportspersons of Bihar ; and
(d) the number of Sports Training Centres being run at present in the country State-wise?

(a) No, Sir.
(b) Does not arise.
(c) The SAI Training Centre (STC) at Patna is
functional and regular training is imparted to
the selected sportspersons in the discipline of
Football, Kabaddi, Table Tennis, Volleyball and
Basketball. During 2004-05, 61 sportspersons
have been given training at STC Patna.
In addition, in Bihar since the last three
years, Sports Authority of India is running
three NSTC Schools at Nalanda, Begusarai &
Bhojpur; one ABSC centre at Danapur and three
SAG Centres at Muzaffarpur, Kishanganj and
Giddhaur. The talented sportspersons from the
State are trained in the discipline of
Football, Kabaddi, Table Tennis, Volleyball,
Basketball, Athletics, Hockey & Wrestling in
the above SAI Centres. During 2002-03, 248
trainees; 2003-04, 348 trainees and 2004-05,
364 trainees were trained under the SAI Schemes
in the State of Bihar.
(d) Sports Authority of India is presently running
57 SAI Training Centres
all over the country. The State wise location
of SAI Centres is placed at Annexure I.
