(a)&(b) The Government of India launched National Dairy Plan Phase-I (NDP-I) for a period of six years from 2011-12 to 2016-17 on 16thMarch, 2012 as a Central Sector Scheme with the following objectives:
(i) To increase productivity of milch animals and thereby increase milk production to meet the rapidly growing demand for milk.
(ii) To provide rural milk producers with greater access to the organised milk processing sector.
The scheme aims at production of 150 million tonnes of milk by 2016-17 to meet the expected demand for milk. NDP-I is being implemented by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) in 16 States, viz., Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The coverage of NDP I will however be across the country in terms of benefits accruing from the scheme.
(c)&(d) The total outlay for NDP-I is Rs. 2242 crore comprising Rs. 1584 crore as International Development Association (IDA- World Bank) credit, Rs. 176 crore as Government of India share, Rs. 282 crore as the share of End Implementing Agencies that will carry out the sub projects and Rs. 200 crore as share of NDDB. State-wise information on sub-projects approved, total amount sanctioned and fund disbursed under NDP-I as on date is given at Annexure-I. There is no estimate of quantum of milk production enhanced due to implementation of NDP-I. However, milk production in the country has increased from 127.90 million tonnes in 2011-12 to137.68 million tonnes in 2013-14.
(e)&(f) NDDB has launched an interactive knowledge repository Dairy knowledgeportal for all member-owned dairy enterprises and institutions (http://www.dairyknowledge.in) on 8th November 2014 for knowledge dissemination on animal breeding, nutrition, health and dairy technology through training, seminars and workshops.
(g) Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries, Government of India is implementing following schemes to increase milk production in the country through a scientifically planned multistate initiative;
(1) National Programme for Bovine Breeding and Dairy Development
(2) Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme
