Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING & URBAN POVERTY ALLEVIATION

(SHRI BABUL SUPRIYO)

(a): As on 3.12.2015, 1183 Cities have been selected in 23 States under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) (Urban) Mission launched on 25.6.2015. State-wise list of city selected is at Annexure-I. As on date, 174 projects for construction of 2,30,403 houses of Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category in 98 cities of 6 States have been approved “in principle” under the Mission. State-wise details of these 174 projects under the Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) and Beneficiary Led Construction components of the Mission are at Annexure-II.

(b): Land and colonisation being state subjects, construction of the projects under the Mission rests with the concerned State Governments. Pace of completion of construction of houses, therefore, would vary from State to State.

(c): The Mission covers all 4041 statutory towns as per Census 2011 across the country.

(d): The PMAY (U) Mission has been launched by the Government with the goal of providing houses to all by 2022. Presently, dimension of the task for the Mission has been estimated at 2.0 crores, exact number of houses would, however, depend on demand survey and other data collected by the States/UTs, as envisaged in the PMAY (U) Mission.
