Question : RADIATION LEAKAGES



(a) the total number of cases of radiation leakages reported at Atomic Power Stations in the country during the last three years; and

(b) the preventive measures taken by the Government to check such leakages?

(a) During the last three years, there have been no radio- activity releases beyond the permitted limits.

(b) The design of the nuclear power plants, adopting defence-in-depth, redundancy, diversity, physical separation and fail-safe features, compliance with the Quality Assurance Programme during design, construction & operation, monitoring/review of safety aspects of the plant and training of plant personnel are some of the measures to ensure compliance with the specifications.
