Question : NATURAL CALAMITIES



(a) whether several parts of the country were affected by heavy rains, floods, earthquakes, landslides etc. in the recent past;

(b) if so, the States/Union Territories affected by these natural calamities;

(c) the number of deaths/injuries reported in these calamities:

(d) the estimated loss of property, livestock and damage to crops in these States;

(e) the details of the Central Teams which visited these areas and the reports submitted thereon; and

(f) the assistance demanded and given to these States/UTs so far?

STATEMENT IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (f) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 19 FOR 22.11. 2011.

(a) to (d): Yes Madam. The details of States/ Union Territories affected by natural calamities like floods, earthquakes etc., in varying degrees as reported by the State Governments/ Union Territories in the year 2011-12 alongwith the loss of human lives, loss to live stock and damage to crops areas and houses is given at Annexure-I.

(e) & (f): The States of Sikkim, Kerala, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh have submitted memoranda for additional central assistance from National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for supplementing their efforts. The State-wise details of the assistance sought, visit of the Central Teams, status of team’s reports and assistance approved, is given in Annexure-II.
