Question : Public Response on GST

(a) whether the Government has studied the response from the general public getting acclimatised to the new tax system, after roll out of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the country and if so, the details thereof;
(b) the total number of eateries such as dhabas, restaurants and kirana shops, departmental stores, etc. registered under the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) system till date, State/UT-wise;
(c) whether the Government has identified the shortcomings and inconvenience faced by the general public due to the implementation of the GST in the country; and
(d) If so, the details thereof along with the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) The government has set up a Feedback and Action Room to constantly monitor the situation and keep a track of the response from the general public after the roll out of GST.
(b) GST Portal has data of registration of taxpayers based on registration forms, where categorization on dhabas, restaurants and kirana shops, departmental stores is not maintained separately and hence, this information is not available.
(c) & (d) The implementation of GST has been smooth with no instances of any major inconveniences faced by the public in general. However, the Government has appointed Nodal Officers to hand-hold and specifically monitor the issues related to each State. Further, the Government is taking all possible steps to ensure correct information is disseminated to the general public by way of topic-wise, GST focused advertisements in the electronic media. All this is coupled with regular meetings of the Secretaries of all the departments of the Government to sort out any issues that may arise.
