Question : COMPREHENSIVE SWATH BATHYMETRIC SURVEY OF THE EXCLUSIVE ECONOMIC ZONE



(a) whether the Government propose to undertake a new project named Comprehensive Swath Bathymetric Survey of the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the targets fixed and the expenditure involved therein?

(a) Yes Sir, the Department of Ocean Development proposes to undertake a nes project on comprehensive bathymetry survey of the entire EEZ of India during the Tenth Plan.

(b) Under the programme the seafloor morphology of the exclusive Economic Zone extending to 200 nautical miles from the coast measuring about 2.02 million square km, is proposed to be surveyed. The detailed three dimensional morphology of sea bottom is proposed to be obtained by using state of the art - technology such as multi beam sonal.

(c) The Programme is proposed to be implemente during the Tenth Plan. As per the preliminary estimates an expenditure of Rs. 40.96 crores would be required for the proposed programme during the Tenth Plan.
