Question : INTEGRATED PROGRAMME FOR STREET CHILDREN



(a) whether the Union Government have introduced an Integrated Programme for Street Children;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the funds allocated for the above programme during 1999-2000,2000-01 and2001-02, State-wise;

(d) whether some State Governments have not fully utilised the funds allocated for the purpose;

(e) if so, the reasons therefor; and

(f) the corrective steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Union Government to implement the integrated programme for street children?

(a) & {b} Yes ,Sir. The objective of this programme is to prevent destitution of children and facilitate their withdrawal from life on the streets. The programme provides for shelter, nutrition, health care, education, recreation facilities to street children and seeks to protect them against abuse and exploitation. The target group of this programme is children without homes and family ties. In addition to voluntary organizations, State Governments, UT Administration, local bodies and educational institutions are also eligible for the financial assistance from the Government under this programme which is upto 90% of the cost of the project..

(c) No State-wise allocation is made. However, the total Budget allocation for the programme during 1999-2000,2000-01 and2001-02 was Rs.9.00 crores, Rs.9.50 crores and Rs.10.80 crores, respectively.
