Question : AUTONOMOUS STATUS TO NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR WOMEN



(a) whether the National Commission for Women has requested the Government to grant autonomous status to the Commission ;

(b) if so, the reaction of the Government in this regard; and

(c) the action likely to be taken in this regard ?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT (SHRIMATI KANTI SINGH)

(a) No request of the Commission in any matter concerning autonomy is pending with the Government. The Commission has the autonomy under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990 (No. 20 of 1990) to regulate its own procedure and the procedure of its committees for the conduct of its functions laid down in the said Act.

(b)&(c) Does not arise.
