Question : DEVELOPMENT OF RURAL INFRASTRUCTURE



(a) the details of the programmes being run by the Government for development of rural infrastructure in the country at present including the funds invested for the purpose during each of the last three years and the current year and the success achieved as a result thereof, State/UT-wise;

(b) whether the various States including Karnatakahave requested to provide more funds/investment for carrying out these programmes;

(c) if so, the details thereof including the action taken by the Government thereon;

(d) whether the Government has accepted the requests of these States including Karnataka for increase of funds/investment for the purpose; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) At present, Department of Rural Development is implementing, through State Governments and UT Administrations,different schemes for development of rural infrastructure in the country,namely, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) for asset creation by providing wage employment to unskilled labour, Pradhan Mantri Gram SadakYojana (PMGSY) for rural connectivity and Indira AwaasYojana (IAY) for rural housing. The financial and physical progress under these schemes for the last three years and the current year are given in Annexure– I toIV.

(b) to (e) Request for additional funds has been received under IAY. However, keeping in view the availability of funds during 2014-15, no additional fundshave been provided.
