Question : DISSOLUTION OF SAM PITRODA COMMITTEE



(a) whether the Government have dissolved the Sam Pitroda Committee, which was fromed to suggest ways to modernise the railway system.

(b) if so, the reasons therefor;

(c) the expenditure incurred over the said committee so far;

(d) whether the Government had takwn proper approval for the formation of the said committee before setting up;

(e) if so, the detailsl thereof; and

(f) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b) The advisory Committee set up uner the Chairmanship of Shri Sam Pitroda in February, 2001, for a period of six months to initiate a comprehensive process of modernisation of Railway system and for launching a new initiative for resource mobilisation, was dissolved with effect from 9-6-2001 due to non-participation of Chairman and a Member in the deliberation of the Committee.

(c) A total expenditure of Rs. 1,69,325.89 has been incurred on this Committee.

(d) & (e) Approval of the Minister of Railways, who is the competent authority in this case, was obtained for constituting the Committee.

(f) Does not arise.
