Question : PhD Programmes

(a) the annual permitted strength of the Ph.D Programmes at each Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) during 2021 along with their category-wise institute-funded, project, sponsored, other fellowships, etc.

(b) the total number of vacant PhD seats in each department at each IIT during the said year along with their Unreserved/Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribes (ST)/ other Backward Classes (OBCs)/ Economically Weaker Section (EWS) composition;

(c) whether the annual permitted strength of the Ph.D programme is fixed for an academic year or for a calender year at each IIT;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the total number of eligible applications received for selection and out of which the total number of students admitted to the PhD programmes in each department at each IIT during the said year along with their SC/ST/OBC/EWS composition?

(a), (c) & (d): The category-wise annual permitted strength of the Ph.D. programmes at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) during 2021 is at Annexure-I. In some of the IITs, the annual permitted strength of the Ph.D programme is fixed for an academic year, while it is not fixed and keeps rolling in others.
(b) & (e): The details of the eligible applications received, students admitted and vacant seats for PhD programmes, department-wise, with UR/ SC/ ST/ OBC/ EWS break-up, during 2021 is at Annexure-II.
