Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:
(a) whether there is any proposal to establish new medical college at Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu;
(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor; and
(c) the time by which it is likely to be established?

(a) to (c): The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare administers a centrally Sponsored Scheme for ‘Establishment of new Medical Colleges attached with existing district/ referral hospitals’. The Phase – III of the Scheme has been approved by the Cabinet on 28.08.2019 to establish 75 more new medical colleges. The State/UT Governments have been requested to send their proposals under this Scheme along with Detailed Project Report (DPR) as per Scheme guidelines for consideration by the Ministry. However, so far, no proposal has been received for establishment of new medical college at Tiruchirapalli from the State Government of Tamil Nadu.
