Question : Household under MGNREGS

(a) the number of households that have demanded work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) since March 2020, month-wise and State- wise as, compared to the previous year;

(b) the number of households that have been provided work under the Scheme since March 2020, month-wise and State-wise;

(c) the reasons for not providing work to each household who has demanded it;

(d) the average number of days of employment provided to each household that was provided work in the last one year; and

(e) the number of households that have been provided the guaranteed 100 days of employment in 2020, as compared to the previous year, State-wise?

(a): Month-wise and State-wise details of employment demanded by households under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (Mahatma Gandhi NREGS), since March 2020, as compared to the previous year is given at Annexure-I.

(b): Month-wise and State-wise details of employment provided to households under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (Mahatma Gandhi NREGS), since March 2020, are given at Annexure-II.

(c): The mandate of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 (Mahatma Gandhi NREGA) is to provide for not less than 100 days of wage employment in a financial year to every rural household whose adult member volunteers to do unskilled manual work.

As per the Act, the job has to be provided within 15 days of receipt of application or from the date on which the employment has been sought in the case of an advance application, which-ever is later. If a beneficiary, does not accept the offer, beneficiary will not be entitled for unemployment allowances. Details of number of households demanded work (Employment Demanded), number of households to whom work offered (Employment Offered) and number of households worked (Employment Generated) in the current FY 2020-21 (as on 06.02.2021) are given below:

99.8% households have been offered employment against their demand during the current financial year. The States/UTs are implementing the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA. There is a provision of unemployment allowances to be paid by the State/UT Government, in case, the household could not get job against the demand within 15 days from the date of application or from the date of employment in the case of an advance application.

(d): Under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS, average number of days of employment provided to each household is 46 days during the current Financial Year 2020-21(as on 06.02.2021). During FY 2019-20, average number of days of employment provided to each household was 48 days.

(e): States/UTs-wise number of households who were provided 100 days of employment under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS during the current financial year 2020-21 (so far) and last financial year 2019-20 is given at Annexure-III.
