(a) the number of departments identified by the Expenditure Reforms Commission for restructuring/downsizing;

(b) the number of Group C & D employees likely to be rendered surplus, once the recommendations of the Expenditure Reforms Commission are implemented; and

(c) the amount of expenditure on the voluntary retirement scheme made available to employees declared surplus?

Answer given by the minister

Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance and Company Affairs (Shri Anandrao V.Adsul )

(a) 36.

(b) & (c): Around 23,400 posts in all Groups have been declared surplus so far by the various Ministries/Departments and so far 11,485 posts have been abolished. It is difficult to estimate at this stage the number of Groups `C` and `D` employees likely to be rendered surplus once the Expenditure Reforms Commission recommendations are fully implemented, as also the surplus employees who would avail the Voluntary Retirement Scheme.
