Question : Production of Automobiles

(a) whether the production of Automobiles have increased during the last three years in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has any proposal to enforce strict green norms in Automobile Industries; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) :Yes Madam, the production of Automobiles have increased during the last three years in the country. As per the information provided by Society of Indian Automobiles Manufacturers (SIAM), the detail of the Automobiles production in the last three years is as under:

(c) & (d): Yes, Madam. It has been decided to enforce stricter BS VI emission norms from April 2020 and skipping BS V emission norms. The draft notification has already been issued by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways vide GSR 187(E) dated 19th February, 2016 in this connection. Further, BS IV emission norms would be introduced across the country in a phased manner and would be applicable across the country from 1st April, 2017.
