(a) & (b): The Government have introduced a new initiative viz., Pradhan Mantri Gramodaya Yojana (PMGY) in order to achieve the objective of sustainable human development and improve the basic amenities at the village level. PMGY envisages allocation of Additional Central Assistance (ACA) to the tune of Rs. 5000 crore to the States and UTs during 2000-2001. PMGY has two components, namely, rural roads with an allocation of Rs. 2500 crore of Additional Central Assistance and other programmes namely, primary health, primary education, rural shelter, rural drinking water and nutrition with an allocation of another Rs. 2500 crore.
