Question : AWARDING AND REWARDING OF JUDGES



(a) whehter attention of the Government has been drawn to the newsitem captioned `Unit Scheme` judges will get better rewards for speedy disposal of cases, appearing in the The Times of India dated January 25, 2002;

(b) if so, the details of the scheme and the reaction of the Government thereto; and

(c) whether any provisions have also been made against inordinate and unexplicable delays suffered by cases, especially where poor under trails particularly women and children continue to suffer detention in jails for want of bail?

(a) Yes, Sir.

(b) As per available information, the norms have been redrawn by the Delhi High Court for assessing work done by judicial officers by according graded priority for disposal of old cases according to the year of pendency. It is a step forward for disposal of old pending cases.

(c) Periodical reviews are held by the concerned District Judge and the Hon`ble High Court and corrective actions are accordingly, taken.
