Question : Allocation of Kerosene to Tamil Nadu

(a) whether the Union Government has drastically reduced Kerosene supply to Tamil Nadu from 62000 KL to 16000 KL; and
(b) whether the Government of Tamil Nadu has requested the Union Government to allot more kerosene to Tamil Nadu, if so, the details thereof along with the action taken by the Union Government to allot more kerosene to the State?

(a) Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) makes allocation of Public Distribution System (PDS) Kerosene for cooking and lighting purpose on quarterly basis to States/UTs. In view of increase in LPG coverage and rural electrification, the allocation of PDS Kerosene has been rationalized across all the over the country including the State of Tamil Nadu. Accordingly, PDS SKO allocation to the State of Tamil Nadu has been rationalized to 32,292 KL for third quarter of the year 2019-20.
(b) A letter from Government of Tamil Nadu was received and it was informed to Government of Tamil Nadu that for special needs such as natural calamities, religious functions, fisheries, various ‘yatras’, ‘melas’ etc., MoPNG has issued Order dated 21st August, 2012 whereby each State/Union Territory can draw an allocation of one month’s quota of Kerosene at non-subsidized rates during each Financial Year.
