Question : Declaration of Wild Boar as Vermin

(a) whether the Government is aware of the increasing incidents of wild animal attacks in Kerala that are causing death and injury to many people;
(b) the number of casualties reported from Kerala due to wild animal attacks during the last three years and the current year;
(c) whether the Government received a request from the State Government of Kerala to declare wild boar as vermin for a period of one year in the entire state of Kerala;
(d) whether the Government considered the request and taken any decision and if so, the details thereof; and
(e) whether the Government has received requests from the farmers for compensation for the agricultural crops destroyed by wild pig in several villages of Kerala and if so, the details thereof including the details of compensations provided to any State Government during the last three years, Year/State-wise?

(a) & (b) Incidences of wild animal attacks and crop loss due to wild animals in various parts of the country including the state of Kerala have been noted. However, data regarding the number of casualties due to wild animal attacks is not collated by the Ministry.

(c) & (d) The Ministry has received requests from the State Government of Kerala for declaring wild boar as vermin in the State for a period of one year. After examining the matter, the Ministry has requested the Government of Kerala to consider utilizing the provisions contained in section 11 (1) (b) of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 and the Advisory issued by the Ministry on 06.02.2021 to deal with Human Wildlife Conflict.
