Question : Protection and Maintenance of Samadhis

(a) whether the Government looks after or assists the State Governments in looking after the Samadhis/Mausoleums of freedom fighters in various parts of the country;

(b) if so, whether it has come to the notice of the Central Government that the Mausoleum of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad in Delhi has been in squalid condition since many years;

c)whether the Government is undertaking any steps to protect or manage such sites, including from problems of encroachment, ineffective maintenance etc., and

(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (d): The Ministry of Culture does not look after Samadhis/Mausoleums. However, as per available information CPWD looks after the following Samadhis/Mausoleums: Raj Ghat, Kisan Ghat, Sangharsh Sthal, Vir Bhumi, Shakti Sthal, Shanti Van, Samta Sthal, Vijay Ghat, Ekta Sthal, Sadaiv Atal and Mazar.
Mausoleum of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad situated near Jama Masjid, Delhi is in good condition. There is no damage to any structure inside the mausoleum. General upkeep and maintenance of Mausoleum is done regularly and there is no encroachment on the plot.
