PROHIBITION OF MANUAL SCAVENGERS AND THEIR REHABILITATION

Will the Minister of SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EMPOWERMENT be pleased to state:

(a) the details of budget provision made/allocated/ utilised for the implementation of prohibition of manual scavengers and their rehabilitation during each of the last three years and the current year, State and year-wise;

(b) the details and number of families of safai karamcharis benefitted during the above period; and

(c) the details of unutilised fund held and their disposal as on date?

(a): The Budget Allocation (B.E.), Revised Allocation (R.E) and Funds released under the “Self Employment Scheme for the Rehabilitation of Manual Scavengers (SRMS)” during the last three years and current year upto 15.9.2020 are as under:

(b): The target group of the SRMS are identified manual scavengers and their dependents. Safai Karmacharis who are not manual scavengers and their families are not eligible for the benefits of the Scheme. The number of identified manual scavengers/dependents who were provided rehabilitation benefits under SRMS during the last three years and the current year upto 15.9.2020 are as under:

(c): The implementing agency of the Scheme, National Safai Karmacharis Finance and Development Corporation (NSKFDC) is having Rs. 11.80 crores as unutilised funds as on 15.9.2020 for providing rehabilitation benefits to the remaining identified manual scavengers and their dependents during the remaining period of the current financial year.
