MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI KIREN RIJIJU)
(a) to (c): Yes Madam. The Marine Police personnel have to undergo special training to perform their duties in the sea. With a view to meeting the training requirements of the State Marine Police personnel, the Government has proposed to establish two Marine Police Training Institutes (MPTIs), one each on the Eastern Coast and the Western Coast of the country.
For the establishment of the Institute, land measuring 250 acres with water front along with connectivity with big town/city is required, which is to be provided free-of-cost by coastal States/Union Territories. The State Governments of Maharashtra and Gujarat have offered requisite lands for establishment of the Institute on the Western Coast. A Committee constituted in the Ministry of Home Affairs, comprising members from Indian Navy, Indian coast Guard, Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) visited the locations in both the States to inspect the sites offered by these States and submitted its Report. The location for the proposed Institute on the Western coast would be finalised after due consideration of various aspects of coastal security and training requirements.
