Question : NISHTHA Programme

(a) the objective and salient features of National Initiative for Schools Heads Teachers Holistic Advancement (NISHTHA) along with its present status;

(b) the details of the States and districts covered through NISHTHA in the country, including West-Bengal;

(c) whether the said programme is likely help to enhance the quality of education; and

(a) & (b): The Department of School Education and Literacy has launched a National Mission to improve learning outcomes at the Elementary level through an Integrated face-to-face Teacher Training Programme called NISHTHA – National Initiative for School Heads’ and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Samagra Shiksha in August 2019. Till 31st March 2020, 23000 Key Resource Persons and around 17 lakh elementary teachers were trained across states and UTs in face to face mode.

However, due to COVID-19 challenges and in order to provide continuous learning opportunities to the teachers at the elementary level, this Department has launched NISHTHA online using DIKSHA platform in October 2020 to reach out to elementary teachers and its further extension to all as well.
All states and UTs, except Kerala and West Bengal have joined NISHTHA training so far.
(c) & (d): This integrated teacher training programmme consists of 18 modules to help in improving the quality of education. The prominent feature of this integrated programme is the activity based modules for innovative child centric pedagogies, including educational games and quizzes, Social-emotional learning, motivational interactions, team building, preparation for school based assessment, in-built continuous feedback mechanism, online monitoring and support system, training gap and impact analysis (Pre and Post training), and inclusion.
