Question : Centre for Disability Sports

(a) whether the Government had decided to set up a ‘Centre for Disability Sports’ a few years ago;
(b) if so, the progress made in this regard so far along with the reasons for delay, if any; and

(c) the steps taken by the Government to provide an advanced sports infrastructure to ensure effective participation of persons with disabilities in sports activities and also to enable them to compete at National as well as International levels?

(a) to (c): The Government decided to establish a Centre for Disability Sports at Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh on 28.02.2019. The work order for construction of the Centre on turnkey basis has already been issued. The project envisages provision of modern facilities for:-
• Integrated sports (Indoor) like Badminton, Basketball, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Judo, Taekwondo, Fencing and Rugby Boccia;
• Adopted sports (Indoor) like Goalball, Football 5 a side, Para Dance Sport and Para Power Lifting;
• Integrated Sports (Outdoor) like Athletics, Archery, Football 7 a side and Tennis; and
• Integrated sports (Indoor and Outdoor) –Swimming.
