Question : Wrongful Claim of Organic Produce

(a) the number of cases of agricultural produce from India claimed to be organic and proving to be otherwise upon testing;

(b) the details of action taken against those making such fraudulent claims, including the number of cases filed, the status of these cases and the punishments given on conviction; and

(c) the steps being taken by the Government to ensure that such fraudulent practices are stopped?

(a) to (c): No such case has been brought to the notice of the Government. Transparent mechanism of monitoring is in place to prevent any fraudulent claims of organic farming under both National Programme for Organic production (NPOP) and Participatory Guarantee system (PGS) as these systems operate through transparent online platforms of TRACENET and PGS Portal respectively.

Food Safety and Standards (Organic Foods) Regulations, 2017 are notified by Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to ensure integrity of the Organic Food products, and help in controlling unscrupulous practices in the market
