Question : MODERNISATION OF CHHATTISGARH POLICE FORCE



(a) the total funds sanctioned and released by the Union Government for modernisation of police force in Chhattisgarh during 2007-08;

(b) whether the Government of Chhattisgarh has requested the Union Government to sanction additional funds to the State for modernisation of police force in view of the naxalite problem;

(c) if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the time by when the required funds is likely to be provided?

(a): During the financial year 2007-08, out of Central allocation of Rs.25.00 crore to Chhattisgarh under the Scheme for Modernization of State Police Forces (MPF Scheme), an amount of Rs.22.47 crore was released during the period to the State, after deducting the unspent amount of Rs.2.53 crore pertaining to previous years upto 2005-06 remaining unutilized with the State Government.

(b) to (d): During 2007-08, besides the normal allocation under the MPF Scheme, an additional amount of Rs.19.25 crore has been released to the State for modernization of police force, in view of the challenges posed by naxalite problem.
