Question : STOPPAGE OF TRAINS



(a) whether the Railways have received any representation regarding the stoppage of some important trains at Piravom Road Railway station in Kerala considering its industrial importance;

(b) if so, the reaction of the Railways thereto;

(c) whether a demand has also been made to the Railways for modernizing the said railway station;and

(d) if so, the action taken thereon?

(a) Yes, Madam.

(b) At present, 6 pairs of Mail/Express trains and 8 Passenger trains are stopping at Piravam Road. Stoppage of additional trains has not been found commercially justified or operationally feasible at present.

(c) & (d) No proposal has been received for modernization of Piravam Road station. Piravam Road is a ‘D’ category station on Ernakulam-Kottayam-Kayankulam section of Thiruvananthapuram Division. The development of any railway station is done based on the traffic needs. All the minimum essential amenities have been provided at this station as per the norms and are considered adequate for the present level of traffic.
