Question : CONSERVATION OF LAKES



(a) whether there is any `National Policy` for preservation, management and maintenance of the lakes;

(b) if so, the salient features of the policy,

(c) whether these lakes have improved the environment of the country,

(d) if so, the details thereof;

(e) the details of yearly average of tourists visited these lakes during the last three years;

(f) whether any proposal is under consideration of the Government to improve these lakes; and

(g) is so, the details thereof?

(a),(b),(c),(d),(e),(f) &(g) : the Ministry of Environment and Forests has identified 10 urban lakes for conservation and management under National lake Conservation Plan (NLCP).

The details of the lakes identified are :

1. Dal Lake (J&K)	2. Sukhna lake (Chandigarh)	3. Sagar lake (Madhya Pradesh)	4. Nainital lake (Uttar Pradesh)	5. Kodai Kanal Lake (Tamil Nadu)	6. Ooty lake (Tamil Nadu)	7. Udaipur lake (Rajasthan)	8. Rabindra Sarovar lake (West Bengal)	9. Powai lake (Maharashtra)	10. Hussain Sagar lake (Andhra Pradesh) 


However, the Government due to finanacial constraints has not approved National Lake Conservation Plan (NLCP).

Details of the tourists visiting the lakes are not maintained.
