Question : INTEGRATED LOW COST SANITATION SCHEME



(a) the number of proposals received from various State Governments under the Integrated Low Cost Sanitation (ILCS) scheme during each of the last three years and the current year alongwith the status thereof, State-wise;

(b) the funds allocated, released and utilized during the above period, State-wise;

(c) whether the Government has recently decided to discontinue the ILCS scheme; and

(d) if so, the reasons therefore?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO 95 FOR 20.3.2012 REGARDING INTEGRAGED LOW COST SANITATION SCHEME

(a)&(b): The number of proposals received from the various State Governments under Integrated Low Cost Sanitation (ILCS) Scheme during each of the last three years and current year alongwith status thereof, the funds allocated, released and utilized during the above period, State-wise is placed at Annexure - I.

(c)&(d): The main objective of the scheme is to convert all reported dry latrines into twin pit pour flush latrines in the urban areas of the country during the 11th Plan period. This Ministry has accorded sanctions for all projected conversions of dry latrines as reported by the States. 25% funds under the scheme was earmarked for new construction of toilets for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) households in the urban areas to facilitate the above. Under this category the entire allocated fund has been committed. Funds have been earmarked for the next financial year to meet the carry forward committed liabilities.
