Question : Playgrounds in Schools

(a) whether as per rules, it is mandatory to have playgrounds in the Government schools affiliated to CBSE;

(b) if so, the details of affiliation rules for schools as well as for day-cum-boarding schools;

(c) the number of schools equipped with proper monitoring infrastructure facilities, State-wise;

(d) whether complaints are being received regarding non-availability of playgrounds and teaching experts as well as absence of mandatory student-teacher ratio in several CBSE affiliated schools including residential schools in the country; and

(e) if so, details of the action taken / proposed to be taken by the Government against the complaints ?

(a) and (b): The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) grants affiliation to the school on fulfilment of mandatory conditions as laid down in Affiliation Bye-laws 2018, which is available on the CBSE’s website http://saras.cbse.gov.in/cbse_aff/Welcome_aff.aspx
As per provision under Rule 4.7.9 of CBSE Affiliation Bye-Laws, - ‘school shall have adequate ground to create outdoor facilities for at least 200 meter Athletics Track. Facilities for Kabbadi, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, basketball etc’.

(c): The Board grants upgradation /extension of affiliation on fulfilment of essential conditions as per Affiliation Bye Laws. In so far as CBSE is concerned, there are 27167 number of schools, as on date affiliated with the Board. No such data is maintained.
(d) and (e): The Board deals with complaint received from its stakeholders. Further action as specified in the Clause 12.1 Affiliation Bye-laws of the Board is taken thereafter.
